Tamil Nadu’s 2026 Assembly election produced one of the state’s biggest political surprises, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerging as the single largest party in the 234-member House. Led by Vijay, TVK won 108 seats, ending decades of uninterrupted dominance by the two traditional Dravidian majors. Polling for all constituencies was held on 23 April 2026, while votes were counted on 4 May 2026. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam finished behind TVK, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam also suffered setbacks. The fractured mandate has triggered intense political negotiations over government formation and possible alliances.

TVK
- A drug-free Tamil Nadu will be created.
- Education Guarantee Scheme: To ensure educational opportunities for the youth, Collateral-free loans of up to ₹20 lakhs will be provided following the completion of Class 12.
- A comprehensive recruitment schedule will be formulated to facilitate the provision of government jobs.
- In the event of delays in employment placement, a monthly stipend of ₹4,000 will be provided to graduates, and ₹2,000 to diploma holders.
- Collateral-free loans of up to ₹25 lakhs will be provided with the aim of fostering honest entrepreneurs.
DMK
- The breakfast scheme will be extended up to 8th grade.
- The Magalir Urimai Thogai will be increased to ₹2000.
- Farmers receiving free electricity will be provided with modern electric pump sets without meters.
- 10 lakh new houses will be built and provided in Tamil Nadu within 5 years.
- The annual income limit for medical insurance eligibility will be increased to ₹5 lakh.
CONGRESS
- Every family will receive ₹2000 per month, which will be deposited in the name of a woman in the household. This benefit will be given to all families who have a family ration card.
- Landless farmers will be given financial assistance of ₹6000 per year.
- Reservation for government school students will be increased to 10%.
- 40,000 vacancies in the police department will be filled.
- The two-language policy will be followed in Tamil Nadu.
