Representation of women in Indian Parliament is far less than the global average. India ranks 148 globally in terms of representation of women in government and Parliament. Women make up 11.8 percent (64 MPs) of the 542-member Lok Sabha and 11 per cent (27) of the 245-member Rajya Sabha. The global average is around 20 - 25%. A few of the prominent women ministers in the Modi cabinet are - Nirmala Sitharaman, Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani, among others.
