With Just One Click, Yogi Adityanath Transfers Rs 2,000 Crore to PM Awas Yojana Beneficiaries

The PMAY Urban 2.0 programme in Uttar Pradesh disbursed Rs 1 lakh per family to two lakh beneficiaries via direct bank transfers, supporting urban housing construction and reducing delays and opportunities for middlemen. The event in Lucknow showcased how digital transfers accelerate housing access for homeless urban residents.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended a digital transfer event under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0. During the programme, instalments of Rs 1 lakh each were sent to two lakh beneficiary families. The transfer, made directly into bank accounts, aimed to support urban housing construction for people without permanent homes.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana started in 2014 with a target to provide housing for every homeless family. In urban areas, the District Urban Development Agency, or DUDA, manages the scheme’s implementation. For each approved dwelling in city areas, the government sanctions financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh through the programme.

PM Awas Yojana instalment benefits in Uttar Pradesh

The event took place at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow on a Sunday and focused on digital payments. Yogi Adityanath carried out the first instalment transfer under this phase using an online system. In total, Rs 2,000 crore in grant money moved directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries across Uttar Pradesh.

Officials highlighted that the fresh instalment would help families continue or begin house construction in urban local bodies. Many recipients were present at the venue, while others joined from different districts through video link. According to the state government, the direct benefit transfer method reduced delays and limited scope for middlemen.

PM Awas Yojana instalment event interactions

After the transfer, Yogi Adityanath spoke with several beneficiaries to understand their experiences. Yogi Adityanath asked how they felt after getting their own house and about progress on construction. Yogi Adityanath also checked whether they were receiving benefits from other government welfare schemes linked to livelihoods, food security, and basic services.

Yogi Adityanath said that before 2014 many eligible people did not receive support from such central schemes. Yogi Adityanath stated that now the benefits were reaching households more broadly across the state. Yogi Adityanath added that no official could dare demand a bribe, because those asking for money risked going to jail.

PM Awas Yojana instalment officials and outreach

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar joined the Lucknow programme through a virtual link. Uttar Pradesh Energy and Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma was present on the stage with Yogi Adityanath. During the interaction, Yogi Adityanath encouraged beneficiaries to write letters of thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The state government presented the mass transfer as a step in continuing the housing drive in urban Uttar Pradesh. With the latest instalments released under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0, officials stressed ongoing support for constructing permanent homes. The programme is expected to keep assisting sanctioned families until their houses are ready for occupation.
