The distribution took place during a programme held in Lucknow, where the Chief Minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen child welfare services, improve nutrition monitoring, and enhance service delivery through digital tools.
Smartphones to Modernise Anganwadi Work Across the State
During the event, CM Yogi Adityanath described Anganwadi workers as the backbone of schemes linked to the health and nutrition of women and children. He said the smartphone distribution would help make their work more efficient and transparent, allowing them to update data faster, monitor government schemes more effectively, and ensure benefits reach eligible families on time.
The programme also featured the distribution of appointment letters under Mission Rozgar, alongside announcements related to the strengthening of Anganwadi services and infrastructure. The government said the larger goal is to make Anganwadi operations more digital, transparent and accountable, so that information related to child nutrition, vaccination and development can be recorded and tracked in a timely manner.
'Real-Time Updates' Will Improve Efficiency and Rankings, Says CM
Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister said, "Today, more than 69,000 smartphones have been distributed to Anganwadi workers across the state. This will now enable real-time updates in their work."
He further said that accurate and timely data entry would not only improve service delivery but also help raise Uttar Pradesh's performance and ranking in welfare implementation. According to him, every Anganwadi centre should gradually develop into a digital service centre capable of providing faster and more reliable monitoring of grassroots programmes.
The state government believes this digital push will help improve transparency and reduce delays in data collection, especially in schemes related to maternal health, child nutrition and early childhood development.
Government Also Supplies Health Monitoring Equipment
In addition to smartphones, the Chief Minister said the government has also distributed several key health monitoring devices to support Anganwadi workers in tracking the growth and nutrition of children more effectively.
He said that over 1.33 lakh stadiometers, 10,553 infantometers, and more than 58,000 weighing machines have been made available across the state. These tools are expected to strengthen child health assessments by making it easier to measure height, infant growth and body weight at Anganwadi centres.
The programme also included discussions around the development of Anganwadi centres, the addition of new facilities, and other welfare-linked employment initiatives. The government said such measures would give a stronger push to both women's empowerment and child development programmes in Uttar Pradesh.
CM Yogi Targets Previous Governments Over Delay in Reforms
CM Yogi Adityanath also used the occasion to criticise previous governments, saying the current reforms could have been implemented much earlier if there had been enough focus on the needs of poor families and grassroots welfare systems.
He said, "This work could have been done earlier as well, but it was not given attention at that time."
In another sharp remark, he added, "Those who do not understand the problems of the poor from close quarters can never truly understand their needs."
With the smartphone rollout and distribution of health monitoring equipment, the Uttar Pradesh government is positioning the move as a major step towards digitally transforming Anganwadi services and improving last-mile delivery in women and child welfare schemes.
