Big Housing Boost In UP: CM Yogi Adityanath To Transfer Rs 900 Crore To 90,000 PMAY-U Beneficiaries Today

The Uttar Pradesh government advances PMAY-U 2.0 by disbursing Rs 900 crore directly to 90,000 urban beneficiaries, supporting low and middle-income housing across the state and accelerating construction through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will on Monday send the first instalment of housing aid worth Rs 900 crore directly into the bank accounts of 90,000 urban beneficiaries. The transfer under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 aims to speed up home construction for low-income families across the state.

The event will take place at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, where a large public programme has been planned. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm and will feature several senior leaders and officials, reflecting the importance attached to this housing initiative.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 and Uttar Pradesh housing progress

Government data for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 show that Uttar Pradesh is among the leading Indian states in providing urban housing. Since 2014, a total of 21.35 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the urban component of the scheme, backed by financial support running into tens of thousands of crores.

According to official figures, more than Rs 44,471 crore has already been released into beneficiaries’ accounts under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 in the state. When rural and urban schemes are combined, the Yogi government has provided homes to over 62 lakh families through various housing programmes.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 benefits for urban poor and middle class

The second phase, PMAY-U 2.0, is designed to support economically weaker sections and middle-income groups living in cities. The stated goal is that no family in urban Uttar Pradesh should remain without a roof. The Rs 900 crore instalment will help recipients start laying foundations and begin actual construction work.

Funds released under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 are being sent through Direct Benefit Transfer. Officials state that the entire process has been set up to minimise interference and prevent corruption, with money reaching each beneficiary’s bank account without the need for intermediaries or cash handling at local offices.

At the Lucknow event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will not only authorise the large electronic transfer but will also hand over housing approval certificates to 20 selected beneficiaries as a symbolic gesture. These certificates will represent the larger number of families receiving funds across urban areas of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma are expected to attend the ceremony at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. Several other cabinet members and public representatives will also be present during the programme linked to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0.

Around 1,500 beneficiaries from the Lucknow and Ayodhya divisions will join the event in person. Thousands of other beneficiaries from different districts of Uttar Pradesh will witness the moment through video conferencing, connecting local venues to the main stage in Lucknow.

Yogi Adityanath will also interact virtually with beneficiaries from Fatehpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Maharajganj and Deoria. During this Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 related interaction, beneficiaries are expected to share their experiences and describe how receiving financial support for housing is affecting their families’ living conditions.

Through Monday’s instalment and earlier releases, the state leadership aims to continue expanding urban and rural housing coverage. By combining Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0, its rural counterpart, the Chief Minister Awas Yojana and flats built on land freed from alleged mafia control, the administration is moving towards its target of housing security for lakhs of families.
