4 Killed As Private Bus Overturns On Highway After Driver Allegedly Falls Asleep

A tragic road accident occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Monday when a double-decker bus overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway, killing four passengers and injuring more than a dozen others.'

The accident caused panic among commuters and led to a large rescue operation at the site.

The bus was reportedly travelling from Ludhiana in Punjab to Darbhanga in Bihar when the incident took place near Gosai Ganj. Authorities said the vehicle suffered severe damage after overturning, making rescue work difficult.

This incident comes weeks after another major bus accident in Jharkhand's Latehar district in January 2026. A bus carrying wedding guests overturned in the Orsa Valley area, killing nine people and injuring around 80 others.

Police officials had said the bus was travelling from Chhattisgarh to Jharkhand when it lost control and overturned. Several injured passengers later died during treatment, raising the death toll.
