Kochi Man Jumps From Metro Track, Dies By Suicide - Caught On Camera

A young man died by suicide after jumping off the Kochi Metro track near Vadakekkota station in Tripunithura on Thursday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Nizar, a resident of Chullippara in Malappuram district, according to a report in Asianet.

According to officials, Nizar entered the Vadakekkota Metro Station after purchasing a ticket and stood on the platform for some time, seemingly waiting for a train bound for Aluva. Suddenly, he jumped onto the track.

Metro staff noticed his actions and rushed to intervene. They promptly shut down the power supply and tried to stop him, but Nizar continued walking along the track.

As he reached pillar no. 1013 between SN Junction and Vadakekkota, he leapt from the elevated track towards the road below. Fire and rescue teams, who had already been alerted and had deployed a safety net, were unable to save him as he deliberately jumped away from the net's reach.

Nizar suffered critical injuries in the fall. He was first taken to a private hospital in Tripunithura and later shifted to Medical Trust Hospital in Ernakulam, where he was declared brought dead.

The entire incident was caught on camera and the clip of his act has gone viral on social media sites.

Metro services were briefly suspended following the incident but have since resumed normal operations. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and the Metro police have launched an inquiry into the security lapse and the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
