Ranji Trophy Final: Paras Dogra Headbutt Goes Viral; KL Rahul, Mayank Aggarwal Come Out With Verbal Attack

The Ranji Trophy final between Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka features on-field tension, including Paras Dogra's headbutt incident, sustained sledging, and dramatic moments as J&K pursue a historic maiden title aided by Dogra's 10000-run milestone.

The Ranji Trophy final between Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka turned hostile on Day 2 when J&K captain Paras Dogra headbutted substitute fielder KV Aneesh at the Hubli Cricket Ground, forcing umpires and senior Karnataka players to step in as tempers flared during a tense morning session.

Despite the clash, Jammu & Kashmir’s batters continued to control the Ranji Trophy final, moving to 350 with six wickets still intact. The innings had already been shaped by Shubham Pundir’s 121 on Day 1, supported by Yawer Hassan’s 88 and Abdul Samad’s 61 in J&K’s maiden title match.

Ranji Trophy final tension after Paras Dogra edge and confrontation

The flashpoint in the Ranji Trophy final came in the 101st over of J&K’s innings. Paras Dogra and Kanhaiya Wadhawan were building a solid stand when Dogra edged Prasidh Krishna for four. Soon after, Dogra exchanged words with Aneesh at forward short leg, then suddenly charged and headbutted, helmet first.

Mayank Agarwal quickly moved between the two players in the Ranji Trophy final exchange, while the umpires rushed in to calm the situation. Dogra tried to apologise when the over ended, but Aneesh rejected the gesture. The atmosphere stayed hostile as play carried on.

Ranji Trophy final sees sustained sledging and another on-field clash

With the apology spurned, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, fielding close to the bat in the Ranji Trophy final, kept talking at Dogra after almost every ball. Their sledging intensified the mood, which had already been edgy after Dogra was worked over physically on the opening day.

On Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy final, a rising bouncer from Vyshak Vijaykumar had thudded into Dogra’s glove. The blow forced Dogra to retire hurt for 9 from 48 balls, adding another layer of friction between the teams even before the later headbutt incident unfolded.

Ranji Trophy final adds fresh flashpoint with Vyshak and Wadhawan

Soon after the headbutt, another confrontation erupted in the Ranji Trophy final, this time involving Kanhaiya Wadhawan and pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak. As Wadhawan set off for a single, his left elbow brushed Vyshak in the bowler’s follow-through, and both players immediately squared up to each other mid-pitch.

The umpire and a Karnataka teammate pushed Vyshak away during the Ranji Trophy final face-off, while Dogra, at the non-striker’s end, responded with a wry smile. The flashpoint drew comment from the broadcast box: "This is one Wadhawan because Vyshak did not move from his position. No, the rule is that Vyshak, in his follow-through, will remain in his position and that the batter needs to change his route," said the commentator.

Ranji Trophy final highlights Paras Dogra’s long domestic journey

All this drama in the Ranji Trophy final arrived soon after a huge personal landmark for Dogra. At 41, Dogra recently became only the second batter in Ranji Trophy history to reach 10000 runs, achieving the feat in the semi-final against Bengal, joining Wasim Jaffer in an elite group.

Dogra is playing a 27th Ranji Trophy season and has represented several teams before this final. After 17 years with Himachal Pradesh, Dogra joined Puducherry for the 2018-19 season. Dogra then moved to Jammu & Kashmir last year and, as captain, has scored 551 runs across nine matches.

Ranji Trophy final underlines impact of Paras Dogra on J&K cricket

Former Jammu & Kashmir captain Parvez Rasool believes Dogra’s presence has shaped the side that reached the Ranji Trophy final. "This year, I think Paras Dogra's inclusion made a big difference. His experience and leadership helped the team immensely. A side always needs a strong, experienced leader, and Paras Bhai handled the team very well. His presence brought stability and belief in crucial moments. Looking ahead, this is a very positive sign for J&K cricket. The younger players are now learning what it takes to compete at this level," former J&K captain Parvez Rasool tells The Hindustan Times Digital.

As the Ranji Trophy final between Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka continues, J&K’s commanding total, Dogra’s vast domestic record and the overlapping on-field disputes underline both the pressure and opportunity facing a first-time finalist, with emotions running high alongside a historic chance for the team.
