While the Pakistan Cricket Board weighs its final call, unexpected contenders have stepped forward, adding a humorous twist to an otherwise tense situation for world cricket's governing body.

Uganda steps forward amid uncertainty

As doubts linger over Pakistan's stance, Uganda has formally offered itself as a replacement should a vacancy arise. The offer came through a tongue in cheek post from Cricket Uganda, which quickly gained traction on social media.

"Dear @ICC, If a T20 World Cup seat opens, Uganda is ready - packed and padded. Passports warm (not ice). No bakers leaving ovens or ships U-turning. Heat, noise, pressure? We'll bring the bold kit," Cricket Uganda posted on X.

The light hearted message was a direct response to earlier developments involving Iceland Cricket, which had initially floated the idea of replacing Pakistan before backing out.

Iceland's withdrawal adds humour to the saga

Iceland Cricket, known for its witty social media presence, had earlier offered to step in but later announced its withdrawal in dramatic fashion.

"It is with a heavy heart that we now announce our unavailability to replace Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup," Iceland Cricket wrote, before adding: "Our loss is likely Uganda's gain. We wish them well."

The exchange between the two associate nations added a layer of humour to a situation otherwise dominated by diplomatic and logistical concerns.

PCB travel plans signal participation

Despite speculation in sections of the media, the Pakistan Cricket Board appears to be moving ahead with preparations for the tournament. Sources close to the board confirmed that travel arrangements have already been finalised.

"The PCB has already made travel arrangements for the World Cup squad to leave early morning on February 2 for Colombo," a source told PTI.

The development effectively rules out a boycott of the tournament or the high profile match against India scheduled for February 15.

Leadership discussions and final decision awaited

Earlier, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the matter. Following the meeting, Naqvi indicated that a decision on the "ICC matter" would be taken by Friday or Monday, February 2.

According to insiders, the PCB has expressed full support for the Bangladesh Cricket Board's security concerns about playing in India but is cautious about taking any step that could weaken its standing within the International Cricket Council.

"When the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, met with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, he made it clear that all options under consideration should ensure a stable and prosperous future for Pakistan cricket and maintain good relations with the ICC and member boards," an insider said.

With Bangladesh already replaced by Scotland earlier, the ICC is keen to avoid further disruption. A formal confirmation of Pakistan's participation is now expected soon, likely putting an end to days of speculation and social media satire.
