Delhi Govt in Action: Minister Parvesh Verma Suspends 3 ZROs After Surprise Inspection, Complaints

Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma suspended three Zonal Revenue Officers and one Assistant Section Officer after finding delays in public grievance redressal. The officials, posted in Rajendra Nagar, Kanhaiya Nagar and Ashok Vihar Delhi Jal Board zones, faced action following repeated complaints from residents.

According to the Water Minister, the suspension order covered the Zonal Revenue Officers of Rajendra Nagar, Kanhaiya Nagar and Ashok Vihar, along with the Assistant Section Officer of Kanhaiya Nagar. The decision came after the department received reports of negligence and slow response to complaints related to water and billing services.

Before issuing the suspensions, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma carried out surprise inspections in the three Jal Board zones. During these visits, Verma reviewed attendance sheets, complaint registers and daily working procedures. Officials said that records showed lapses in presence, irregular complaint tracking and weak supervision of routine operations.

The minister then directed the administration to begin departmental proceedings against the officials. Verma also ordered that replacement officers be posted without delay in Rajendra Nagar, Kanhaiya Nagar and Ashok Vihar. The aim, according to officials, was to ensure that pending grievances were addressed and regular work did not slow further.

Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma had earlier argued that the present Delhi government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, was dealing with long-pending urban and environmental problems. Verma said these issues were left unresolved by the previous Aam Aadmi Party government headed by Arvind Kejriwal over several years.

Speaking at a press conference, Verma claimed that the condition of the national capital resulted from "11 years of neglect" by the earlier administration. Verma said the backlog of work covered basic services, from cleaning public spaces to upgrading waste systems, which should have been handled steadily over the last decade.

Listing specific gaps, Verma mentioned that projects should have included removal of garbage mounds, fixing damaged footpaths and maintaining local parks. Verma also cited e-waste disposal systems, cleaning of the Yamuna, upkeep of drains, sewage treatment plants, water treatment units and plastic waste management, along with road cleaning and an electric vehicle policy.

"All these works should have been done in 11 years. If even half of the work had been completed, we would only have had to finish the remaining part. But not even a single task was completed. Before we started working, less than five per cent of these projects had been executed," Verma said.

Verma stated that the current Delhi government was formed on February 20, 2025. According to Verma, the Chief Minister, cabinet members and senior officials began visiting the field from February 21, 2025, to address civic concerns. The recent suspensions were presented as part of that wider push for accountability.
