Delhi Aerocity Metro Station To Become Major Interchange Hub With Golden Line And Airport Express Connectivity

The Delhi Metro is preparing to turn the Delhi Aerocity Metro station on the Airport Express Line into one of its most important interchange hubs. The station is being expanded to connect with the Tughlakabad-Aerocity Golden Line, which is currently under construction as part of Phase 4 of the metro network.

This expansion will significantly improve connectivity between south Delhi and key parts of the city, including the airport.

Golden Line Extension Approved up to Terminal 1

Authorities have also approved the extension of the Golden Line from Aerocity to Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport. The new stretch will be about 2.26 kilometres long and will allow passengers from several south Delhi areas to reach Terminal 1 directly by metro.

Once this extension becomes operational, travellers arriving at Terminal 1 will also be able to reach the Airport Express Line via Aerocity by using the Golden Line, making airport travel smoother and faster.

Future Provision for Triple Interchange

In the coming years, Delhi Aerocity station may also become a triple interchange. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has proposed an interchange at Aerocity for its planned corridor to Alwar.

To support this future integration, the station design includes necessary structural provisions so that an NCRTC platform can be added later without major changes.
Station Design and Passenger Connectivity

The new Golden Line station at Aerocity will be built at a depth of around 22 metres. It will offer both platform-to-platform connectivity on one side and concourse-to-concourse paid-area access between the Airport Express Line and the Golden Line.

The Golden Line station will be longer than usual, measuring about 290 metres to handle the interchange needs. In comparison, a standard interchange station is usually around 260 metres long. The alignment has been planned carefully, as the Golden Line and the proposed NCRTC corridor will cross each other at an angle.

Improved Access for South Delhi Areas

This interchange is expected to greatly benefit south Delhi localities such as Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar and Khanpur. Residents of these areas will get faster and more direct access to all terminals of the airport.

Overall, the upgraded Delhi Aerocity Metro station will play a key role in improving airport connectivity and strengthening Delhi's public transport network.
