Suhas Shetty Murder: Who Were the Women in Burqas? Mangaluru Cops End Speculation in Viral Clip

The brutal killing of Bajrang Dal member Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru has shaken the coastal city and sparked heated discussions across the state. What particularly stood out in the viral video of the incident was the involvement of two women in burqas who were seen assisting the killers shortly after the attack. After days of speculation, the Mangaluru police have confirmed who the women are.

At a press briefing, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal revealed that the women are related to one of the accused, Niaz. "The women seen in the video are not strangers. They are connected to one of the attackers and were in the area on personal errands," he clarified, putting an end to wild theories surrounding their identity.

Attack Captured on camera

The horrifying assault was recorded on surveillance cameras. The footage shows Suhas being attacked with a talwar-a large sword-like weapon-in broad daylight. The video also shows the two women helping the assailants into a vehicle, aiding their swift escape. This part of the clip caught the attention of many, leading to public demands for answers.

Link to Fazil's Killing in 2022

Investigators believe Suhas's murder was an act of revenge. Suhas had been named as the main accused in the 2022 killing of a young Muslim man, Mohammed Fazil, in Suratkal who was reportedly targeted in retaliation for the killing of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru.

According to police, Abdul Safwan, an associate of Fazil, was behind the retaliation. He had narrowly escaped an attack in 2023 and feared that Suhas might strike again. Driven by fear and revenge, Safwan is believed to have plotted Suhas's murder.

The Commissioner explained that Safwan assembled a group for the job and even contacted Adil, who had previously hired someone to kill Fazil. A sum of ₹5 lakh was promised for the task, and ₹3 lakh was handed over as advance payment.

Eight Suspects Behind Bars

The police have now arrested eight persons in connection with Suhas Shetty's murder. The prime accused has been identified as Abdul Safwan, a driver from Shantigudde. Others involved include Mohammed Muzammil, a newlywed salesman based in Saudi Arabia, and Mohammed Rizwan from Jokatte, who is also employed in Saudi.

Also named in the case are Kalandar Shafi from Kulshekar, Ranjit Nagaraj, and Adil Mahroof - the brother of the late Fazil, whose killing Suhas's murder was reportedly meant to avenge. They sealed a deal - ₹5 lakh was the price set for Suhas Shetty's murder, with ₹3 lakh handed over as advance payment.

Their confessions and interrogation details have shed light on how the murder was planned and executed. Officials believe this was not a spontaneous act but a calculated move driven by an old vendetta.

The confirmation about the identity of the burqa-wearing women addresses one of the many mysteries surrounding the case. Even as the investigation progresses, police have urged the public not to jump to conclusions or give the incident a communal spin. Authorities stress the need for calm as they work to ensure justice is served.
