Yogi Govt Announces 114 City-Wise Townships, Big Housing Boost For Urban Families
Uttar Pradesh is preparing for a large urban expansion as the state government plans to develop 114 modern townships across its cities to meet rising housing demand. The move comes after a sharp increase in urban population and mounting pressure on planned residential infrastructure.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier set a target of 100 townships, but proposals from multiple development authorities have pushed the number higher. The Housing Department now aims to implement the project city-wise, promising organised growth and improved living standards.
Modern facilities planned in new townships
Officials say the upcoming residential clusters will include comprehensive civic infrastructure. Power lines will be laid underground to improve safety and aesthetics. Parks and pedestrian pathways will also be created to promote planned neighbourhood development.
Authorities believe these planned townships will help reduce unregulated housing growth around cities and provide structured residential options for citizens.
Illegal colonies and rising urban pressure
Rapid migration toward cities has led to widespread illegal plotting in surrounding villages. Property dealers have been developing unauthorised colonies, often without proper approvals. This has not only affected urban planning but also triggered frequent disputes and legal action by development authorities and local bodies.
The new townships are intended to curb such unplanned expansion by offering officially developed residential areas.
Budget focus on employment and rural livelihood
Alongside urban housing, the state is also focusing on rural employment. The Developed India Employment Guarantee and Livelihood Mission (VB-GRAM-J), which replaces MGNREGA, has received the largest allocation in the Rural Development Department budget. About 40 percent of the department's budget has been earmarked for the scheme, with ₹95,692 crore allocated, according to a PRS Legislative Research analysis.
Semiconductor plant foundation on 21 February
In a parallel push toward industrial growth, Uttar Pradesh will take a significant technological step on 21 February with the foundation ceremony of a semiconductor manufacturing plant in the YEIDA region of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The project, to be built on 48 acres in Sector 28, is being developed by India Chip Private Limited as a joint venture between HCL Group and Foxconn Technology Group. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend virtually, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will be present at the project site.
Officials believe the project will strengthen the state's ambition of emerging as a major semiconductor manufacturing hub in India.
