Yogi Government Welcomes Centre’s Nod to Long-Term Metro Plan for Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra

The government approves a 2025-2047 long-term metro development plan for Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra, guiding expanded corridors, mixed transit modes, and alignment with future population growth and urban development.

Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra are set for a major change in public transport. The Narendra Modi government has cleared the 'Long-Term Metro Development Plan (2025-2047)' for these three cities. With this approval, metro expansion will move beyond current lines and cover a far wider area. The plan links directly to the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' national development vision.

For this long-term push, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has issued a no-objection certificate. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has started preparing a 23-year transport blueprint. The aim is to shape future mobility needs in advance. Existing metro networks in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra will be extended in several directions.

Officials describe four central elements in the scheme. New metro corridors will be created across Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra. Improved connectivity is expected to reduce congestion and support local industrial and administrative economies.
