Yogi Government Pushes New State Highway Linking NH 509 and NH 32 to Ease Travel Between Aligarh To Sambhal
The Aligarh Sambhal state highway proposal would create a continuous corridor linking NH 509 and NH 32, consolidating existing roads to reduce travel time and congestion across Aligarh, Hathras, and Sambhal districts. The plan includes land acquisition and a uniform 10 metre carriageway, with potential for future upgrades.

People travelling between Aligarh, Hathras, Agra and Sambhal are set to get shorter trips, as the Public Works Department has proposed a new 81.41 kilometre Aligarh–Sambhal state highway via Sasni. The corridor will link National Highway 509 and National Highway 32, and is planned to ease heavy traffic on existing narrow district and other district roads.

At present, most travellers from Aligarh towards Sambhal use the route through Atrauli. This journey covers more than 105 kilometres and usually takes over two and a half hours because of congestion and poor road width. The new alignment is expected to cut both distance and travel time for four districts directly.
Aligarh Sambhal state highway route and district-wise length
The proposed Aligarh Sambhal state highway will pass through parts of Aligarh, Hathras and Sambhal districts, combining several existing ODR and link roads into one continuous corridor. PWD officials have included land acquisition wherever widening is needed. The state highway is planned with a uniform 10 metre width, in line with current state road standards.
The alignment includes sections such as Sasni–Akarabad, Sasni railway feeder road and Sasni–Nanau road in Hathras; Nanau–DadON road, DadON–Sankara road, Sankara–Mithanpur road and Sankara to Bhawarukheda Ganga river stretch in Aligarh; and from kilometre 159 of the Meerut–Badaun road to Ghossi ka Raja road plus Mithanpur–Bairpur–Sambhal road in Sambhal.
Length distribution for the Aligarh Sambhal state highway across districts is given below for clarity and planning analysis.
| District | Proposed state highway length (km) |
|---|---|
| Aligarh | 52.82 |
| Hathras | 14.00 |
| Sambhal | 14.59 |
| Total | 81.41 |
Aligarh Sambhal state highway travel time and traffic impact
Once the Aligarh Sambhal state highway is built, PWD estimates suggest that people from Aligarh and Hathras will be able to reach Sambhal in about one to one and a half hours. Currently, the same journey from Aligarh typically needs two to two and a half hours because the existing road condition is weak and carriageway width is limited.
The PWD proposal explains that heavy population growth and rising vehicle numbers in Aligarh and Hathras have created strong pressure on current roads. By combining ODR stretches into a single state highway, the department expects smoother movement, reduced congestion and a more direct route. Residents of Sasni, Hathras and Agra heading to Sambhal will not need to pass through Aligarh city, as they can use the Sasni link instead.
Planning process for Aligarh Sambhal state highway
According to officials, present ODR routes in the corridor are often only five metres wide or even narrower. These will be upgraded to the proposed 10 metre state highway standard. Land acquisition is included for Aligarh, Sasni and Sambhal stretches, and will take place where widening or realignment is required, as stated in the submitted proposal.
Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Vijay Singh said, “The Aligarh–Sambhal new state highway has been proposed. After conducting a survey, the proposal has been sent to the government. The existing ODR route has been included in the plan. In view of the increasing traffic density, a new state highway has been proposed. Aligarh, Hathras and Agra districts will benefit from it. After being declared a state highway, the chances of the route being upgraded to a national highway increase.”
With the proposal now sent to the state government, the Aligarh Sambhal state highway scheme outlines a direct connector between NH 509 and NH 32, shorter inter-district distances and better travel times. If approved in its present form, it will reorganise several ODR segments into a single corridor and may later support an upgrade to national highway status.
