Lucknow Green Corridor Phase 2 Opens March 13; Travel From IIM Road To Shaheed Path To Get Faster

Lucknow is set for a major traffic boost as the second phase of the city's ambitious Green Corridor project is ready for inauguration, promising relief from chronic congestion in some of the busiest parts of the Uttar Pradesh capital.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will jointly inaugurate the newly completed stretch on March 13, while also laying the foundation stone for the next two phases of the project that aim to significantly cut travel time between IIM Road and Shaheed Path.

Phase 2 to open on March 13 at Jhulelal Vatika

The second phase of Lucknow's Green Corridor project has been completed and will be formally inaugurated on March 13 at 4:30 pm at a grand event to be held at Jhulelal Vatika. The ceremony will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who will jointly open the route for public use.

Alongside the inauguration of the second phase, the two leaders will also perform the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the third and fourth phases of the Green Corridor, signalling the next stage of a project that has been projected as a key solution to Lucknow's worsening traffic burden.

The Green Corridor is increasingly being seen as one of the most significant urban mobility projects in the city, with authorities positioning it as a long-term answer to daily congestion across several densely populated zones.

Rs 299 crore spent on 7 km route from Daliganj to Samta Mulak Chowk

The newly completed second phase of the corridor has been built under the supervision of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) at a cost of around Rs 299 crore.

This stretch runs from Daliganj to Samta Mulak Chowk via Nishatganj and spans nearly 7 kilometres. Once opened, it is expected to provide immediate traffic relief in several high-pressure urban pockets where vehicle movement often slows to a crawl during peak hours.

Officials believe the new corridor will reduce congestion in major areas such as Hazratganj, Daliganj and Nishatganj, which regularly witness long traffic snarls because of heavy commuter flow, signal stoppages and narrow intersections.

The route has been planned to allow vehicles to move more smoothly along the riverfront side, enabling commuters to reach Gomtinagar and Samta Mulak Chowk without repeated interruptions at traffic signals. This is expected to improve traffic dispersal and reduce pressure on parallel city roads.

The administration says the real impact of the project will be felt after all four phases of the Green Corridor are completed.

The broader objective is to create a seamless road link connecting IIM Road in the Dubagga area directly with Shaheed Path and Gomtinagar, two important routes for commuters travelling across Lucknow. This direct connectivity is expected to reshape movement patterns in the city and reduce dependence on congested inner-city roads.

Once the foundation stone is laid on March 13, work on the third and fourth phases is expected to begin at war footing. Under these upcoming stages, the road will be extended from Samta Mulak Chowk to Shaheed Path via Janeshwar Mishra Park, further expanding the corridor's reach and utility.

At present, commuters travelling from IIM Road to Gomtinagar often take 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic density. After the entire Green Corridor is completed, officials claim the same journey could be reduced to just 15 to 20 minutes, which would mark a major improvement in daily travel efficiency.

Smart corridor to feature greenery, modern lights and CCTV network

Officials have said the Green Corridor is not being developed as just another road project, but as a smart urban route that combines faster traffic movement with improved aesthetics and safety.

In line with the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the corridor is being equipped with green landscaping, modern street lighting and a network of CCTV cameras to enhance both the commuter experience and security monitoring.

Apart from reducing travel delays, the project is also expected to contribute to the ongoing beautification of the Gomti riverfront, making the route visually more appealing while improving the surrounding urban environment.

With the second phase now ready and the next phases set to begin, the Green Corridor is being positioned as a major infrastructure milestone for Lucknow, one that could ease pressure on the city's roads, shorten travel time across key stretches and redefine how commuters move between western and eastern parts of the capital.

Administration steps up preparations, security tightened for event

Ahead of the March 13 inauguration, the administration has intensified preparations for the high-profile event at Jhulelal Vatika.

Given the presence of the Defence Minister and the Chief Minister, strict security arrangements have been put in place, and officials are working to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.

For Lucknow residents, however, the bigger significance lies beyond the ceremony. With the second phase opening and the next stages set to be launched, the Green Corridor is emerging as a crucial part of the city's future transport network, one that promises to make daily commuting faster, smoother and less stressful.
