The financial assistance is aimed at helping beneficiaries realise their long-awaited dream of owning a permanent home and will give fresh momentum to the state's Mission Housing programme.
₹2,000 Crore to Be Released Through Direct Benefit Transfer
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), over two lakh eligible urban poor families across Uttar Pradesh will receive the first instalment for house construction. The amount will be transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer in a single click, with each beneficiary receiving ₹1 lakh. In total, more than ₹2,000 crore will be credited to beneficiaries' accounts in one day.
A grand state-level programme will be held on January 18 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. From the venue, the Chief Minister will digitally release the funds as the first instalment for housing construction. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar will also be present at the event.
Direct Interaction With Beneficiaries Across the State
Around 1,500 beneficiaries have been invited to attend the main programme at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. Some of them may receive symbolic cheques or approval letters from the Chief Minister and the Union Minister. Beneficiaries from other districts will join the event through video conferencing and online platforms.
District-level programmes will be organised simultaneously across Uttar Pradesh in the presence of local public representatives. During the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also interact directly with selected beneficiaries to understand the ground-level impact of the scheme and hear their experiences.
Boost to Urban Development and Housing Construction
Providing permanent housing to eligible families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) remains one of the top priorities of the Yogi government. With the release of the first instalment, construction work on houses is expected to pick up pace across urban areas. The government aims to complete all approved houses within the stipulated timeline so that families living without proper shelter or in temporary structures can move into permanent homes.
Urban Development Minister A K Sharma, Minister of State Rakesh Rathore, and senior officials of the Urban Development Department will also attend the programme. The department has instructed all districts to ensure beneficiary participation and timely disbursement of funds. Officials say the initiative will not only address the housing shortage but also contribute significantly to improving living standards in urban Uttar Pradesh.
