US Says Iranian Figure Linked To Alleged Trump Assassination Plot Killed In ‘Operation Epic Fury'

The United States has claimed that an Iranian figure allegedly linked to a past plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump has been killed during ongoing military operations against Iran.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday. He said the individual connected to the alleged assassination attempt had been "hunted down and killed" as part of a military campaign named Operation Epic Fury.

However, Hegseth did not reveal the name of the person who was reportedly killed.

Claim Linked to Alleged Plot Against Donald Trump

While speaking to reporters, Hegseth said Iran had earlier attempted to target Donald Trump and suggested that the US had now responded.

"Iran tried to kill President Trump, and President Trump got the last laugh," he said during the briefing.

The statement refers to a past assassination attempt targeting Trump during the 2024 US presidential campaign.

2024 Assassination Attempt on Trump

In July 2024, Donald Trump was injured during a shooting at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

A 20-year-old man named Thomas Crooks fired multiple shots from the roof of a nearby building while Trump was addressing supporters. One of the bullets grazed Trump's ear, causing minor injuries.

The US Secret Service quickly responded and shot Crooks dead at the scene before he could fire additional rounds.

Authorities later launched an investigation into possible links between the attack and foreign actors.

Iranian Man Earlier Charged in Alleged Plot

Following the incident, the US Justice Department announced charges against an Iranian man in connection with an alleged plan to assassinate Trump.

Officials claimed the plot had been ordered by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). However, details about the alleged operation and those involved were not fully disclosed publicly.

Hegseth suggested that individuals connected to the alleged plot were later added to US military target lists.

US Military Operation Against Iran

The claim about the killing came as the United States continues its military campaign against Iran under Operation Epic Fury.

According to Hegseth, the mission aims to weaken Iran's military capabilities. He said the operation is focused on destroying Iran's missile and drone infrastructure as well as facilities that produce these weapons.

The campaign also targets naval assets and other security infrastructure that the US says supports Iran's military operations.

US Claims It Will Dominate Iranian Airspace

During the press briefing, Hegseth also said that the United States and its allies would soon gain full control of Iranian airspace.

He stated that the US military possesses a large supply of precision weapons and intends to continue strikes until its objectives are achieved.

"We are punching them while they are down," he said, adding that Iran would not be able to sustain a prolonged conflict.

Growing Tensions in the Region

The announcement is likely to further increase tensions between the United States and Iran.

Both countries have exchanged strong statements in recent days as military operations expand across different parts of the region.

While the US says its goal is to neutralize Iran's military capabilities and stop its nuclear ambitions, Tehran has repeatedly accused Washington and its allies of aggression.
