Nepal Election Results: Balen Shah Eyes Landslide Win As RSP Leading In 44 Seats As Per The Trends

In a seismic shift for Nepali politics, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken a commanding lead in the House of Representatives elections held on Thursday, March 5. Building on the momentum of the "Gen Z movement" that ignited last September, preliminary results indicate a sweeping mandate for the young party across all seven provinces.

As of Friday morning, the RSP is leading in at least 44 constituencies, threatening the dominance of Nepal's traditional political heavyweights.

Toppling the Titans
The most significant upsets are brewing in high-profile battles where veteran leaders trail behind RSP newcomers. In Jhapa-5, independent-turned-RSP figure Balen Shah has established a massive lead over CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. By 10:00 AM, Shah had secured 6,090 votes compared to Oli's 2,087.

The trend continues in the Chitwan districts, where RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane maintains his stronghold in Chitwan-2. In Chitwan-3, Sobita Gautam is currently leading against Renu Dahal, daughter of CPN-Maoist Centre coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Meanwhile, in Jhapa-2, Indira Rana Magar holds a comfortable lead with 1,599 votes over CPN-UML's Devraj Ghimire (275 votes).

Kathmandu Valley: A Clean Sweep
The RSP's grip is tightest in the capital, where the party leads in every single constituency.

Kathmandu-1: Ranju (Darshana) Neupane is on the verge of a historic victory with over 12,000 votes.

Kathmandu-5 & 6: Sasmit Pokharel leads by over 4,000 votes against the Nepali Congress, while Shishir Khanal leads Kathmandu-6 with 5,771 votes.

Kathmandu-7 & 8: Ganesh Parajuli and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha have maintained dominant leads, with Shrestha securing a staggering 7,617 votes against his nearest rival's 938.

Kathmandu-10: Pradip Bista leads with 5,765 votes, nearly five times the count of his closest competitor.

Expanding the Footprint
The "Orange Wave" has also breached the traditional strongholds of Bhaktapur. In Bhaktapur-1, Rukesh Ranjit has surpassed Prem Suwal of the Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party. In Bhaktapur-2, RSP's Rajiv Khatri holds 3,060 votes, leading CPN-UML's Mahesh Basnet by nearly double.

Analysis: A Mandate for Change
Political analysts suggest that the results reflect a deep-seated public fatigue with the "old guard." The Gen Z movement, which advocated for technocratic leadership and transparency, appears to have successfully translated digital activism into ballot-box success.

If these trends hold, the RSP will not only become a major power broker but could potentially lead the next government, marking the first time in Nepal's democratic history that a party formed primarily by professionals and youth activists has unseated the established communist and democratic blocs.
