West Bengal Assembly Polls to be Held in Two Phases on April 23 and 29; Counting on May 4

The Election Commission of India has announced that the West Bengal Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases, with polling scheduled for April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026.

West Bengal, which has a 294-member legislative assembly, is among the key states going to polls this cycle. The two-phase polling schedule is aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of elections, adequate security deployment and efficient management of polling stations across the state. Last time in 2021, polls were held in 8 phases.

Election authorities are expected to deploy extensive administrative and security arrangements to facilitate a peaceful voting process. Special measures are also being put in place to ensure accessible polling for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities, along with enhanced monitoring mechanisms at polling stations.

The announcement marks the beginning of an intense political contest in the state, with major parties gearing up for what is expected to be a closely watched electoral battle.
