MP Building Collapse: 2 Dead, NDRF-SDRF Race to Save Trapped in Anuppur

A four-storey building collapsed in Kotma town of Anuppur on Saturday evening, leaving at least two people dead and several others feared trapped under the debris.

Rescue Operations in Full Swing

The incident took place around 5:50 PM near a busy bus stand area, causing panic among locals. Emergency teams quickly rushed to the spot, and a large-scale rescue operation is currently underway.

District Magistrate Harshal Pancholi said that five people have been pulled out so far. "Two of them have died, while three are receiving treatment," he confirmed.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local authorities, are working continuously to clear the debris and search for survivors.

Heavy equipment, including cranes, is being used carefully to avoid further damage and increase the chances of rescuing those still trapped.

Construction Activity Under Scanner

Early inputs suggest that nearby construction work may have contributed to the collapse. Local residents claimed that an adjacent old structure had recently been demolished, and excavation work for a new building was underway.

A deep pit dug next to the building may have weakened its foundation. Witnesses also said the structure had started tilting shortly before it collapsed.

Probe Launched

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. Earlier, state minister Dilip Jaiswal had reported that four people were rescued, with one confirmed dead at that time.

Rescue teams continue to work against time as concerns remain that more people could still be trapped beneath the rubble.
