Uttarakhand disability quota lecturers to undergo AIIMS-Rishikesh health checks from 7 March

The Uttarakhand Education Department will verify the health status of 234 lecturers appointed under the disability quota through check-ups at AIIMS-Rishikesh from 7 March to 2 April. Examinations will run twice weekly, with a warning of action for non-attendance. The move follows allegations of fake disability certificates and a High Court PIL filed by the National Federation of the Blind.

The Uttarakhand Education Department has ordered medical checks for 234 lecturers hired under the disability quota. The exams will take place at AIIMS-Rishikesh. Officials said the step follows allegations of fake disability certificates. The checks will cover appointments made since the state’s formation. The department has also warned of action for missing the schedule.

The plan was sent to districts through a letter from Dr Mukul Kumar Sati. Dr Mukul Kumar Sati is Additional Director of Secondary Education. The letter went to all chief education officers. It directed them to ensure attendance at the hospital. It also set dates, timings, and the daily limit.

As per the instructions, the health checkup will run from March 7 to April 2 at AIIMS-Rishikesh. The department scheduled sessions twice each week. These are Thursday and Saturday. The time slot is 9 am to 3 pm. The hospital will examine 50 lecturers per day.

The department’s letter also flagged consequences for absence. It stated that missing the medical check within the time limit could invite action. The warning applied to any lecturer who does not report. District officers were asked to support the process. They were also told to help manage travel and reporting.

The move followed claims that some staff used false disability documents to secure lecturer posts. The issue reached the Uttarakhand high court through a public interest litigation. The National Federation of the Blind filed the case. The petition highlighted concerns about misuse of the disability quota in appointments.

Uttarakhand Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat commented on the allegations. Rawat said, "whenever such cases come to the governments attention, an appropriate action is taken after investigation.\" Rawat also said action would follow if wrongdoing is proved. The department linked the checks to verifying eligibility.

AIIMS-Rishikesh said the hospital has readied the required facilities. Assistant Public Relations Officer Srinoy Mohanty said all arrangements are in place. The hospital has also formed a panel for the checks. Dr Mrityunjay Kumar from the Urology Department has been named its head.

The checkups are expected to run across the full period set by the department. Officials said the process covers all 234 lecturers under the disability quota. The department tied the exercise to court-linked concerns and verification needs. AIIMS-Rishikesh has assigned a panel lead and prepared for scheduled visits.
