Uttarakhand: Nine MBBS Students Face Suspension and Expulsion for Ragging at Doon Medical College

Nine MBBS students at Doon Medical College have been suspended and expelled for ragging junior students. The Anti-Ragging Committee's inquiry led to these actions, highlighting the institution's commitment to a ragging-free environment.

Officials have reported that nine MBBS students from Doon Medical College in Dehradun were suspended and expelled from the hostel on Monday. This action was taken due to their alleged involvement in ragging junior students. The decision followed the Anti-Ragging Committee's inquiry report, which found them guilty of assaulting two juniors on January 12.

The committee's findings led to severe consequences for the students involved. Two of them face a two-month suspension from classes and are barred from the hostel and internship for the duration of their course. Additionally, each has been fined Rs 50,000. Seven other senior students received a one-month class suspension and a three-month hostel expulsion.

Anti-Ragging Measures at Doon Medical College

The inquiry report was submitted to Dr. Geeta Jain, Principal of Doon Medical College. Dr. Jain emphasised that the college maintains a strict no-ragging policy and will not tolerate any such behaviour. She reiterated the institution's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all students.

Dhan Singh Rawat, the state's Medical and Medical Education Minister, expressed his dismay over the incident, describing it as extremely unfortunate. He instructed the college principal to conduct a thorough investigation and enforce strict measures to prevent future occurrences.

Minister Rawat highlighted that ragging incidents challenge institutional discipline and order, which is unacceptable. He stressed the importance of setting an example with this case to deter similar actions in educational institutions across the state.
