Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Resigns As MLC; Will Continue To Head Government In State

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who was recently elected as the member of Rajya Sabha, has resigned from his membership of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) on Monday, March 30. Notably, he will continue to serve as the Chief Minister of Bihar for now.

According to sources, Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh at the Chief Minister's official residence.

Under constitutional rules, a person cannot simultaneously remain a member of two legislative bodies. After winning the parliamentary seat, Nitish Kumar was required to vacate one of the positions within 16 days.

By resigning from the Bihar Legislative Council, Nitish Kumar has cleared the way to formally continue his role as a member of the Rajya Sabha. The move is largely seen as a procedural step following his election to the Upper House of Parliament.

Nitish Kumar, a veteran politician and one of Bihar's longest-serving leaders, continues to play a central role in the state's politics while also expanding his presence in national parliamentary proceedings through the Rajya Sabha.
