Jana Nayagan Release Update: Are Makers Really Withdrawing The Censor Case & Editing Out 20 Mins?

The much‑anticipated release of Thalapathy Vijay's last film before his political plunge, Jana Nayagan, continues to be mired in uncertainty, with conflicting reports and legal entanglements clouding its path to theatres.

Speculation recently surfaced that the producers had trimmed 20 minutes from the film and resubmitted it to the Regional Censor Board. This claim quickly gained traction across social media, fuelling debates about whether the film was being reshaped to meet certification requirements.

However, industry veteran G. Dhananjeyan has dismissed these rumors. In a strongly worded post on X, he questioned the motives behind spreading such unverified stories, urging fans and media alike to await official confirmation from the producer. He clarified that the censor process is still pending in court and that no final decision has been made.

In a post on X, he wrote, "#JanaNayagan 20 minutes edited and submitted to censor etc. - how on earth people cook up such stories and post in social media? The Producer yet to finalise his plans with Censor and why such fake news is being spread by all ? What's the agenda? Is it to spoil the expectations on the film? Just stop it guys."

Originally slated for a Pongal release on January 9, the film's journey has been stalled by censor board complications. The absence of a certificate forced the production house to seek legal intervention. The Madras High Court initially directed the board to grant a U/A certificate, but the censor authorities challenged this ruling, leading to an interim stay. The matter escalated to the Supreme Court, which declined to intervene and redirected the case back to the High Court.

In its latest development, the High Court ruled that the earlier order must be set aside, requiring the case to be reheard from scratch by a single judge. This effectively resets the entire process, prolonging the uncertainty surrounding the film's clearance.

On the other hand, reports claimed that the producers were reconsidering their legal strategy altogether. According to Nakkheeran, the team was weighing the option of withdrawing the case and pursuing a solution with the censor board instead of continuing the protracted judicial battle. This shift could mark a new phase for Jana Nayagan, where the focus turns to negotiations and re‑examination rather than courtroom proceedings.

Rumors have even circulated that the film might be postponed indefinitely, potentially releasing only after the Tamil Nadu elections, though no official word has confirmed this scenario.
