South Korea Secures Olympic Archery Gold Against China After Magnifying Glass Tiebreaker
South Korea narrowly defeated China in women's team archery, securing their 10th consecutive gold medal. The final score was tied after regulation, leading to a shoot-off. Initially, the shoot-off score also seemed tied until an official used a magnifying glass to confirm the results.

Jeon Hun-young and Lim Si-hyeon's shots were determined to be 10 instead of 9, giving South Korea a 29-27 win in the shoot-off and a 5-4 victory overall. "At the moment of the shoot-off, we tried not to think too much," Jeon said. "As we'd prepared before, we were able to do it just as we prepared. We have this teamwork, and we only focus on what we can do in the moment, and we don't worry too much."
China's Performance and Reaction
China had high hopes of breaking South Korea's winning streak after defeating them at the Archery World Cup in 2023. "The Olympic Games are a little bit different," China's Yang Xiaolei said. "They are more comprehensive. But we keep focusing on what we do, and it has already proved a lot for us to have a 4-4 in the game to force the shoot-off. So we already feel good about this."
Bronze Medal Match
In the bronze medal match, Mexico triumphed over the Netherlands. This victory added another achievement for Mexico in the archery event.
The intense competition showcased the high level of skill and precision required in archery. The use of a magnifying glass to determine the final score highlights how even the smallest details can make a significant difference in such closely contested matches.
The South Korean team's ability to stay focused under pressure was crucial to their success. Their preparation and teamwork played a vital role in securing their victory.
This win continues South Korea's dominance in women's team archery, maintaining their unbeaten record at the Olympics. The team's consistent performance over the years is a testament to their dedication and skill.
China's strong performance indicates their growing prowess in archery, setting up future exciting contests between these two nations. The close match suggests that China is closing the gap with South Korea.
The bronze medal win for Mexico also highlights their potential in international archery competitions. Their success against the Netherlands demonstrates their capability to compete at a high level.
Overall, this event was a thrilling display of archery talent from all participating teams, promising more exciting competitions in future tournaments.
