Kumar expressed satisfaction with the participation of over 44,000 students in various sports activities. However, he noted that many children still spend time indoors playing video games instead of engaging in physical activities. "Good health is paramount and remaining fit is the key to good health," he stated. Kumar urged more children to take up sports and hoped for 100,000 participants in the next edition of the event.
Importance of Fitness and Sports
Murlidhar Mohol emphasised that a strong India is essential for development. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched initiatives like Fit India and various sports festivals to promote this vision. "As a part of that initiative, we organized competitions in 37 sports at 29 venues," Mohol explained. He thanked all participants and organisations involved in making the event successful.
Mohol also highlighted Pune's rich tradition of sports culture. The aim of these competitions is to nurture and enhance this culture further. He expressed hope that future champions like Anjali Bhagwat and Shantaram Jadhav would emerge from these events. "Today you have taken on the leadership of the city; tomorrow you will lead the state, and one day, you will lead the nation," he added.
Government Support for Sports Initiatives
State minister Chandrakant Patil mentioned that since 2014, the Prime Minister has been advocating for such competitions. He suggested organising festivals focusing on art, sports, agriculture, and new technology. Mohol initiated the sports festival, which received an overwhelming response from participants and spectators alike.
The event's success reflects a growing interest in sports among young people in Pune. It also underscores the importance of government support in promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles through organised sports events.
