Matteo Manasseros Career-Best 61 Leads Jonsson Workwear Open
Matteo Manassero shot an 11-under 61 to take a one-shot lead at the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa, marking a career-low round for the Italian golfer.
In a remarkable display of golfing prowess, Matteo Manassero stole the spotlight at the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa on Friday. The Italian golfer etched his name in the record books by carding a career-low round of 11-under 61, propelling him to a one-shot advantage heading into the weekend.

Manassero's Impressive Scorecard
Manassero's exceptional round was a testament to his skill and determination. He soared through the Glendower Golf Club, sinking a pair of eagles and an impressive seven birdies. This remarkable performance brought his overall score to 15 under par, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
Previous Accomplishments and Recent Struggles
Manassero is no stranger to golfing success. In 2010, he made headlines as the youngest European tour winner at the age of 17, triumphing at the Castelló Masters Costa Azahar in Spain. However, the 2013 USPGA Championship winner faced challenges in recent seasons, leading him to compete in the second-tier European Challenge Tour last year. Despite these setbacks, Manassero's resilience and hard work have brought him back to the forefront of the sport.
Manassero's Perspective on His Performance
Reflecting on his exceptional round, Manassero displayed a humble and focused demeanor. He acknowledged the significance of his achievement but emphasized the importance of staying grounded and looking ahead. "This is a long road, and of course I'm happy with a round like this, but it's today, tomorrow's tomorrow, and I don't look behind very much, even if we tend to sometimes," Manassero said. "So I just look ahead and try to improve the process, get better, and see what comes."
Other Notable Contenders
While Manassero stole the show, other golfers also made their presence felt on the leaderboard. Home favorite Oliver Bekker trailed closely behind, just one shot shy of Manassero's lead. Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin and Spaniards Ángel Hidalgo and Iván Cantero were also in contention, sitting two shots adrift of the leader.
African Swing of the European Tour
The Jonsson Workwear Open marks the third consecutive week of the European tour in Africa. This week's tournament is also the second week of a co-sanctioned event with the Sunshine Tour, further adding to the prestige and competitiveness of the competition.
As the tournament unfolds over the weekend, golf enthusiasts can expect more thrilling performances and intense competition from Manassero and his fellow contenders. The Jonsson Workwear Open promises to deliver an unforgettable spectacle of golfing excellence.
