KKR Skipper Ajinkya Rahane Addresses Top Order Woes After Defeat to Gujarat Titans
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane acknowledged his team's ongoing issues with their opening order, which have been costly this season. Their latest batting performance resulted in a 39-run loss to Gujarat Titans on Monday. Chasing a target of 199, KKR managed only 159/8. "I thought 199 was chaseable, we came back into the game really well with the ball. You expect good opening starts, but that's what we're struggling with throughout the tournament. We need to learn as quickly as possible," Rahane stated during the post-match presentation.

Despite improvements in bowling, Rahane admitted that the batting lineup has not performed adequately. "The pitch was a little slow, but when we were bowling we thought something below 210 or 200 would be good. We need to bat better, especially in the middle overs. We need better opening starts, no complaints from our bowlers. Every game they're improving," he added.
Fielding and Mindset Concerns
Fielding also contributed to KKR's downfall against GT. Rahane emphasised the importance of fielding, saying, "Fielding is something in our control, if you can save 15-20 runs that's always better. It's all about attitude, but the guys are working hard." He stressed that players should focus on scoring runs rather than worrying about getting out.
Rahane highlighted the need for a positive mindset in this format of cricket. "This format is about being brave as a batter, you can't think too much about the past, just learn from the mistakes and take your chances, have a positive mindset," he explained.
Gujarat Titans' Strong Performance
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, which strengthened their position at the top of the table. Gill led by example with an impressive 90 off 55 balls, earning him the Player of the Match award.
"We spoke about these two matches DC and KKR that they're going to decide where we stand on the table," Gill said. He acknowledged that while they were ahead in the game, closing it out was crucial. "Good teams close the game very well. In this format it's very difficult to have a perfect game," he noted.
Gill reflected on his innings and mentioned that staying longer could have added more runs to their total. "Even today maybe 10 more runs if I had stayed there. But still you have to find a way to win the game and that's what we're really good at," he concluded.
The match highlighted KKR's need for improvement in both batting and fielding to enhance their performance in upcoming games.
