Delhi Court Junks POCSO Case Against Brij Bhushan Singh

Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday closed a sexual harassment case against ex-president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Singh. The case was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following a recommendation from the Delhi Police. The police, in their report dated June 15, 2023, suggested the cancellation of the case, citing the satisfaction of the minor complainant and her father with the investigation's outcome.

The allegations against Singh initially led to a chargesheet by the Delhi Police in response to a complaint by six wrestlers. However, in the particular instance involving a minor, the police opted for a different course of action by filing a cancellation report. This decision was based on the detailed statements of the minor involved and her father, who did not dispute the police's findings or their proposal to close the case during the court proceedings on August 1, 2023.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal saga surrounding Singh, providing him with substantial relief from the accusations leveled against him. The decision by the Patiala House Court to accept the Delhi Police's cancellation report effectively puts an end to the sexual harassment case under the POCSO Act against Singh.

As this situation unfolds, it remains a subject of public and legal scrutiny, especially considering the gravity of the charges initially brought against Singh. The closure of this case underlines the complexities involved in legal processes, particularly in cases of sexual harassment. The initial filing of the chargesheet by the Delhi Police against Singh, followed by their subsequent request for case cancellation, showcases the dynamic nature of legal investigations and their outcomes.
