Mohammed Shami Slams Mitchell Marsh For Keeping Feet On World Cup Trophy

Mohammed Shami, the formidable Indian pace sensation throughout the World Cup 2023, criticized Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for disrespecting the prestigious winner's cup. A widely circulated image showed Marsh with his feet placed on the World Cup trophy, sparking strong condemnation from cricket fans worldwide.

Shami, who dismissed 24 batsmen during the tournament, felt deeply troubled by this disrespectful act. He expressed that the winner's trophy, contested and cherished by teams globally, should be held high in reverence, not treated beneath someone's feet, lamenting Marsh's actions as displeasing.

Despite missing the first four games, Shami entered the final XI when all-rounder Hardik Pandya got injured during the Bangladesh match in the World Cup. The fiery pace bowler shared insights from his time on the sidelines, emphasizing the necessity of mental fortitude and readiness for a return to the playing side after sitting out. He acknowledged the challenges but found immense satisfaction in witnessing his team's success.

The 33-year-old cricketer also revealed an insider's perspective, highlighting that while players typically inspect the pitch before a game to gauge its behavior, he personally refrains from getting too close to the 22-yard track. Shami said that the true understanding of the pitch comes only from bowling on it-advising against unnecessary pressure and advocating for a relaxed mindset to enhance performance, as shared with Puma India.
