Jasprit Bumrah To Retire From Test Cricket? This Ex-India Star Drops A Big Hint Amid India Vs England Series
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has sparked debate in the cricketing world by suggesting that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah may be nearing the end of his Test cricket career. Citing ongoing physical challenges and a visible dip in pace during the ongoing Manchester Test against England, Kaif believes Bumrah might soon opt out of the longest format.
"I think Jasprit Bumrah may not be seen playing in the upcoming Test matches, and he may even retire," Kaif said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). "He is struggling with his body, is bowling slow, and did not show any speed in this Test match."

Jasprit Bumrah Fitness Concerns
Kaif's remarks come amid growing concern over Bumrah's performance in the fourth Test. Once the most feared bowler in the Indian lineup for his consistent 140+ kph pace, Bumrah managed to clock that speed just once in Manchester. Though bowling coach Morne Morkel dismissed injury rumours, Bumrah's visibly reduced intensity and a brief return to the dressing room during the final session raised eyebrows.
Bumrah's unorthodox action, coupled with a short run-up, has long been considered a factor in his recurrent back injuries. With international cricket's demanding schedule offering minimal recovery time, the physical toll appears to be catching up.
"Jasprit Bumrah Will Decide for Himself"
Kaif added that Bumrah is not the type to cling on if he's unable to deliver at full throttle. "He is an independent person; if he feels that he is not able to give his hundred per cent... then he will himself refuse."
Shifting Landscape in Indian Cricket
Kaif also linked Bumrah's possible exit to a broader generational transition in Indian cricket. "First Virat Kohli, then Rohit Sharma went... Now maybe Bumrah also," he observed, highlighting the growing list of key players stepping away from the red-ball game.
As Team India recalibrates its lineup post the departures of senior stalwarts, Bumrah's absence-if confirmed-would mark a significant turning point. His precision, reverse swing, and temperament have been instrumental in India's overseas Test successes in recent years.
