IPL: Delhi Capitals Bids Farewell To Coach Ricky Ponting With A Heartfelt Note

One of the stars-studded franchise with a massive fan base in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday bid farewell to their head coach Ricky Ponting. Making the big announcement on micro-blogging site X, Delhi Capitals thanked the former Australian cricketer for his contribution and for strengthening the team for years.

The two-time World Cup-winning captain for Australia, Ricky Ponting joined the Delhi Capitals in 2019 and built a team that reached IPL finals in 2021. However, it was learned that Delhi Capital's top officials were not happy with the team's performance resulting in axe on Ricky Ponting's job.

A close aide to Delhi Capitals management, on the condition of anonymity, told media that "The top brass of Delhi Capitals have intimated Ricky that they aren't happy that the team didn't win a championship in seven years and they are trying to look at rejigging the support staff. He won't be continuing next year."

"As you move on as our head coach, we are finding it incredibly difficult to put it down in words. The four things that you told us about in every huddle -- care, commitment, attitude and effort, they sum up our seven years together," DC posted on their official 'X' handle.

"Seven summers of you being hands-on, but also hands-off, so that we could become better. As athletes, yes, but more importantly, as human beings. Seven summers of you reaching every training session first, and leaving last. Seven summers of you sprinting out of the dugout during strategic timeouts, and biting your nails off until there were none left. Seven summers of your dressing room speeches the speeches, Oh! (Separate post for that loading) Seven summers of your hugs, shoulder pats and fist pumps for us all - newcomer, superstar... and everyone in-between."

"Thank you for everything, Coach! Like you often close out, 'Let's leave this here mate, grab a, get back to work tomorrow, yeah?" Delhi Capitals said in its post for Ricky Ponting.
