IPL Auction 2025: Yuzvendra Chahal Sold for ₹18 Crore to Punjab Kings
Yuzvendra Chahal, the renowned cricketer known for his outstanding performances, is set to join Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This development comes after an intense bidding war during the mega auction on November 24, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where Punjab Kings secured Chahal for an impressive INR 18 crore. This move marks a significant phase in Chahal's IPL journey, having previously showcased his talent for teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Rajasthan Royals.

Chahal's cricketing career has been noteworthy, especially in the IPL, where he emerged as a leading figure. Before joining PBKS, he played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Rajasthan Royals, making a significant impact in each team. Throughout 160 matches, Chahal has taken 205 wickets with an economy rate of 7.84, including six four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul. His exceptional skill earned him the Purple Cap in 2022 while playing for the Royals, who were the runners-up that year. Chahal's performance was pivotal, securing 27 wickets in 17 matches.
Chahal's Record-Breaking Journey
In 2023, Chahal achieved a milestone by becoming the IPL's leading wicket-taker, surpassing Dwayne Bravo, the legendary cricketer and mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders. This achievement highlighted Chahal's consistent prowess in the league, further establishing him as a key player. His record-breaking journey did not stop there, as he also became the first bowler to claim 200 wickets in the tournament's history.
Chahal's contribution to cricket extends beyond the IPL. He holds the record as India's top wicket-taker in Men's T20 Internationals and ranks second in the country for all T20 International matches, only behind Deepti Sharma. This remarkable achievement underscores Chahal's significance in the cricketing world, not just within the IPL but also on an international scale.
The IPL 2025 mega auction saw various teams vying for top talents, with Gujarat Titans initiating the bidding for Chahal at INR 2 crore. Chennai Super Kings soon entered the fray, but both teams eventually withdrew, paving the way for PBKS and Lucknow Super Giants to intensify the competition. Ultimately, it was Punjab Kings who succeeded in adding Chahal to their squad, anticipating his contribution to their future successes.
