IPL 2025 Auction: Team Budgets And Retention Strategies Explained
The IPL 2025 auction is scheduled for 24-25 November. This season will see 10 teams participating, as two new franchises joined in 2022. With the end of a three-year cycle, another mega auction is set to occur. The total budget for all teams has been increased to Rs. 120 crore, and the minimum base price for players has risen from Rs. 20 lacs to Rs. 30 lacs.
Teams can retain up to six players, with a maximum of five being capped and two uncapped. The remaining budget for each team at the auction will depend on their retention choices and whether those players are capped or uncapped.

Team Budgets and Retentions
Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad have both allocated Rs. 75 crore for player retentions, leaving them with Rs. 45 crore each for the auction. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have spent Rs. 51 crore on retentions, resulting in a remaining budget of Rs. 69 crore each.
Chennai Super Kings have retained players worth Rs. 65 crore, leaving them with Rs. 55 crore to spend at the auction. Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have used Rs. 69 crore on retentions, which gives them a balance of Rs. 51 crore.
Purse Details for IPL Teams
Rajasthan Royals have spent Rs. 79 crore on retaining players, leaving them with a budget of Rs. 41 crore for the auction. Delhi Capitals have retained players worth Rs. 47 crore, resulting in a remaining purse of Rs. 73 crore.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have spent only Rs. 37 crore on their retentions, giving them a substantial amount of Rs. 83 crore left to spend at the auction.
Punjab Kings stand out with the highest available budget of Rs. 110.5 crore after spending just Rs. 9.5 crore on retaining two players.
