IPL 2024: BCCI Slaps Rs 12 Lakh Fine On Rishabh Pant, Here's Why

Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper who made a superb comeback against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with a powerful fifty, has been imposed with a hefty fine by the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing body. Delhi outclassed Chennai by 20 runs at Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The reports said, Rishabh Pant has been slapped with a Rs 12 lakh fine for maintaining a slow run rate during Chennai's inning, which is a breach of the code of conduct.

IPL"s official statement reads "In the match against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on March 31, The Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant maintained a slow over rate and has been fined Rs 12 lakhs."

"This was Delhi Capitals' first offense of the season (IPL 2024 ) under the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses," the statement added.

The Delhi vs Chennai match was a full-on-entertainer as Rishabh Pant, who is back on the field almost after a gap of 2 years, played in his vintage style to score blitzkrieg 51 runs off 32 only balls studded with 4 rolling boundaries and 3 towering sixes. David Warner (52) and Prithvi Shaw (43) were other batters who hit the ball hard and powered the Capitals to pin a good total of 191 runs.

During the chase, CSK faced some early setbacks as young skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and talented Rachin Ravindra returned to the pavilion in only 3 overs when the total was only 7 runs. Though, experienced Ajinkya Rahane (45) and Daryl Mitchell (34) tried hard to fight back, their good innings were not enough to avoid the team's defeat.

However, CSK fans were happy as they saw former captain MS Dhoni batting after a long time. MSD notched 37 runs off 16 balls only hitting 4 boundaries and 3 sixers.
