India vs England: Sarfaraz Khan Replaces Injured Shubman Gill On Day 4

Team India faced a big blow ahead of day 4 of India vs England Vizag Test as star batter Shubman Gill did not take the field. According to the reports, Shubman Gill, who struck a blitzkrieg ton on Sunday, sustained an injury in his right index finger. Gill was replaced by substitute Sarfaraz Khan.

Gill took 147 balls to notch 104 runs. His hundred was studded with 11 rolling boundaries and 2 towring sixes. The century ended a long 12-inning drought of runs and put India in a winning position.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) medical team is taking care of Gill and it is expected to be a minor strain only. However, if it turned out to be something big, then Gill might have to miss the rest of the matches against England.

The news of Shubman Gill being hurt was shared by the cricket governing body on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. "Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won't be taking the field today," the BCCI said ahead of the start of play on Day 4.

Earlier on Day 3, after playing a powerful knock Gill said, "It was very important and very satisfying for me to be able to score runs at No. 3. And it felt pretty good, especially with the situation. We lost Yashasvi and Rohit [Sharma] bhai - they've been giving us really good starts at the top of the order. I think it was important for us to get a big lead and to be able to get as many runs as possible."
