India vs Afghanistan T20: Mohali Police Deploys Heavy Security Near IS Bindra Stadium, Here's Why

It will be an eventful Thursday for Mohali as the city will see a match and a march today. India vs Afghanistan 1st T20 match will be played at the IS Bindra Stadium, while a march has also been called by Qaumi Insaaf Morcha (QIM). Both the high voltage events will surely raise the temperature in the North Indian state that is currently experiencing cold waves.

A massive footfall is expected today in Mohali due to which the state police has beefed up the security. According to the reports, the protest march by QIM will start from Fatehgarh Sahib and will conclude near the YPS Chowk. To maintain law and order in the city, the Punjab police deployed several units at various points on the route of the march.

Around 1500 police personnel including 100 senior officers have been deployed at and around the IS Bindra cricket stadium.

City SSP Sandeep Garg himself review the security arrangements ahead of the big events.

"CCTV cameras have been installed for security purposes. There will be a complete ban on entry of any objectionable material inside the stadium. Moreover, traffic plans near the stadium have been shared on social media. Adequate parking arrangements have been made for vehicles of the spectators," the SSP said.

"We will be keeping a strict vigil on the PCA. There will be no laxity. We have summoned extra force from other districts, apart from Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Quick Reaction Task (QRT), and weapons and explosives detection squads. Around 1200 cops will be present during the match day," the SSP added.

Ind vs Afg 1st T20 will be played on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 07:00 pm.
