Former Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar's Big Advice For Team India For Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024

With presitigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy tournament round the corner, Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared some important and useful advices for Team India. Rohit Sharma and men, who recently faced a humiliating test series defeat vs New Zealand, are currently underconfidence and key players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma himself are out of form.

Highlighting some important insights on the performances of Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul during the second match between India A and Australia A, Sanjay Manjrekar said KL Rahul and Easwaran's performances have raised concerns about their participation in the upcoming Perth Test.

He said, "We went to Australia and needed time to adjust to the bounce. Instinctively, you play a little higher than usual. So you have to get rid of those instincts." Manjrekar added "KL and Easwaran haven't had a great start, so their competition intensifies."

Easwaran struggled to reach the 20-run mark in all four innings, while KL managed only 4 and 10 runs in the second match at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Easwaran could make his international debut after playing 101 first-class matches, scoring 7,674 runs with 27 centuries. Meanwhile, KL has significant experience against Australia.

He has scored 618 runs in 19 innings at an average of 34.33, including a century and six fifties, with his best score being 110. Manjrekar added that both players gained experience in Australian conditions through two unofficial Tests against Australia A.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is slated to commence on November 22, and first match of five test series will be at the Perth.

Challenges for Indian Batters

In a video by ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar highlighted that dismissals of India A batters mirrored what any Indian batter might face during their first Australian tour. He noted that the team is entering this tour "underconfident" after a home series defeat to New Zealand, with key players like Rohit and Virat Kohli not performing well.

Manjrekar advised Indian batters to shed "Indian instincts" when playing in Australia. "The dismissal that you saw of most Indian batters was typical of an Indian batter going to Australia," he explained. "A pitch with some juice surprises them with extra bounce, which happened to all of us."

India Vs Australia Test Series:

The first test of Border-Gavaskar series will begin on November 22 with the first Test at Perth, while second game will be a day-night affair at Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10. The Gabba in Brisbane will host the third Test from December 14 to 18.

The fourth game will be a traditional Boxing Day Test from December 26 to 30 at Melbourne's iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, marking the series' penultimate stage. The fifth and final Test will take place at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, promising an exciting conclusion.
