Fans Go Crazy To See Virat Kohli, More Than 15000 Spectators Gather At Arun Jaitley Stadium

Virat Kohli's return to domestic cricket after over a decade was marked by chaotic scenes at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Fans were eager to witness the former India captain in action during the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways. The excitement was palpable as thousands gathered, leading to a stampede-like situation at the stadium entrance.

As the gates opened, fans rushed in, leaving behind broken phones and lost footwear. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) had expected around 10,000 spectators, but more than 15,000 showed up. This overwhelming turnout created an electrifying atmosphere rarely seen in domestic matches.

Unforgettable Scenes at Arun Jaitley Stadium

The stadium echoed with chants of "Kohli...Kohli" and "RCB RCB," celebrating Kohli's long-standing association with Royal Challengers Bangalore since 2008. As Delhi's captain Ayush Badoni chose to field first, Kohli took his position in the slip cordon, acknowledging the crowd's cheers with occasional waves.

The fervour reached its peak when a fan breached security to touch Kohli's feet during the 12th over. Security quickly intervened, but Kohli signalled them to be gentle with the intruder. This incident highlighted the immense admiration for Kohli on his return to domestic cricket.

Delhi Bowlers Shine Amidst Chaos

Despite the frenzy surrounding Kohli, Delhi's bowlers remained focused. They reduced Railways to 66/5 early on. Upendra Yadav and Karn Sharma helped Railways recover, scoring half-centuries and taking their team to a total of 241 runs.

Siddhant Sharma and Money Grewal each claimed two wickets in the morning session for Delhi. Navdeep Saini and Sumit Mathur emerged as standout performers with three wickets apiece, showcasing their skills amidst the chaos.

Excitement Builds for Day Two

In response, Delhi lost opener Arpit Rana early but ended the day at 41/1. Sanat Sangwan and Yash Dhull remained unbeaten at stumps, keeping fans hopeful of witnessing Kohli bat on Friday. The anticipation for his appearance at the crease adds another layer of excitement to this already thrilling encounter.
