England Cricket Team Announced For India Tour And Champions Trophy 2025

England's cricket team is gearing up for a series against India, featuring five T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals. The matches are set to begin on 22 January 2025. This tour will also serve as preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy later that year.

Joe Root makes a comeback to England's ODI squad, as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on 22 December. Jos Buttler will lead both the ODI and T20I teams. However, Ben Stokes, the Test captain, is absent from both squads due to a hamstring injury sustained during a Test match against New Zealand.

Key Players and Squad Details

Despite not playing any ODIs in 2024, Root's return is notable given his strong record in the format. Meanwhile, Sam Curran, who was named Player of the Tournament at the 2022 T20 World Cup, is missing from Brendon McCullum's squad. Fast bowlers Reece Topley and Matthew Potts are also not included.

The ODI squad features players like Jofra Archer from Sussex and Gus Atkinson from Surrey. Other members include Jacob Bethell from Warwickshire and Harry Brook from Yorkshire. Mark Wood returns to both formats after recovering from an injury.

England's Tour Schedule

The tour kicks off with the first T20I at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 22 January. The second match will be held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 25 January. The third encounter takes place at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on 28 January.

The fourth T20I is scheduled for MCA Stadium in Pune on 31 January, followed by the final T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 2 February. The ODI series begins on 6 February at VCA Stadium in Nagpur.

ODI Series Line-up

The second ODI will occur at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on 9 February, with the final match of the series set for Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 12 February. These matches will provide crucial practice ahead of the Champions Trophy.

The T20I squad mirrors much of the ODI lineup with players like Rehan Ahmed from Leicestershire joining forces with seasoned players such as Adil Rashid from Yorkshire and Saqib Mahmood from Lancashire.
