Maharashtra politics and public life were shaken as Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash near Baramati, along with four others. The aircraft went down while attempting to land around 8:45 AM. The incident triggered shock across political circles and the sports community, with condolences pouring in from leaders and cricketers.

Ajit Pawar, 66, a senior NCP leader, had been travelling from Mumbai to Baramati on a Lear Jet 45, registration VT-SSK. The flight was scheduled to bring Ajit Pawar to a public rally linked to the upcoming Zilla Parishad Elections. All five people on board the jet were killed in the crash near the Baramati airstrip.

Tributes for Ajit Pawar quickly extended beyond politics, as Indian cricketers reacted to the crash. Sachin Tendulkar and Ajinkya Rahane were among the first from the cricket community to convey condolences. Both acknowledged Ajit Pawar's role in Maharashtra's public life and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family and supporters.

Sachin Tendulkar said Maharashtra had lost a devoted public figure and addressed Ajit Pawar's family and associates in a message posted on X.

"Very sad to learn about the untimely demise of Shri Ajit Pawar ji. Maharashtra has lost a dedicated leader who worked for the people, across the state. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," Sachin wrote on X.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin also reacted with shock after learning of the crash. Mohammad Azharuddin described feeling deeply affected by reports of the incident and extended sympathy to the family. "Deeply shaken by the news of Mr. Ajit Pawar's plane crash. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find the strength and courage to endure this profound loss."

Calls for inquiry after Ajit Pawar plane crash in Maharashtra

Former India cricketer and current politician Yusuf Pathan joined the tributes and also sought clarity on how the crash occurred. Yusuf Pathan highlighted Ajit Pawar's public service record while urging authorities to examine the circumstances of the accident in detail.

"Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Ajit Pawar in the tragic plane crash. He was a dedicated leader who served the state with utmost commitment and integrity. His contributions to public service and the development of the state will always be remembered. In this moment of profound grief, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, followers, and the people of the state. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace. There should be a proper investigation into this crash," he wrote.

The crash near Baramati claimed the life of one of Maharashtra's most prominent leaders and four others on the same flight. With three days of state mourning declared and demands for a full investigation raised, attention now stayed on official probes, while tributes from political leaders and sporting icons continued across the state.
