Today's Temperature: IMD Issues Orange Alert Following Scorching Heat In Delhi, Mercury To Touch 45 Degrees

Delhi is experiencing another intense heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of rising temperature in the national capital. An orange alert is in effect for June 10 and 11, while a yellow alert covers June 12 and 13. Residents should prepare for scorching conditions as the week progresses.

On Tuesday morning, Delhi's temperature was already at 32 degrees Celsius by 8 am. Humidity levels were recorded at 39 per cent around 8:30 am. The maximum temperature is expected to soar to approximately 45 degrees Celsius, with dusty winds sweeping through the city.

Heatwave Conditions and Air Quality

The IMD predicts isolated heatwave conditions in Delhi on Tuesday, with clear skies prevailing. These conditions may persist into Wednesday. However, from Thursday onwards, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated, bringing relief from the heat.

Delhi's air quality was rated as poor at 9 am, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 218 according to Central Pollution Control Board data. AQI values between zero and 50 are considered 'good', while readings between 201 and 300 fall under the 'poor' category.

Upcoming Weather Changes

The IMD forecasts light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds starting Thursday. This change will likely result in hot and humid weather but will alleviate heatwave conditions from Thursday to Sunday, June 15.

Rain is expected in Delhi by midweek. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted across parts of North India, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.

Regional Alerts and Monsoon Progress

A red alert has been issued for Western Rajasthan due to severe heatwave conditions and warm nights. Meanwhile, Eastern Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh are under an orange alert for similar reasons.

The southwest monsoon is expected to be above normal this year. It will begin its onset in north India from June 20 and should bring rains to Delhi-NCR between June 25-30. Currently, the monsoon has advanced over southern and western India as well as northeastern states.
