Delhi Weather Forecast: Dip In Temperature, Dense Fog And Cold Waves To Continue In North India

The national capital, Delhi, is currently experiencing a severe cold wave. This weather phenomenon has intensified following recent rainfall, affecting several northern states in India. The chill has spread across regions like NCR, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. A noticeable drop in temperatures has been recorded in these areas.

On January 1, the Meteorological Department predicts dense fog during both morning and evening hours. This will likely lead to reduced visibility and lower daytime temperatures. Consequently, Delhi is expected to face a harsh cold spell with an increased chill factor.

Dense Fog Forecast for Northern States

Cold wave conditions are anticipated in Haryana and Chandigarh on Tuesday. By New Year's Day, these conditions might extend to parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Northern Madhya Pradesh. According to the India Meteorological Department, dense fog is expected to envelop areas in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab from late Tuesday night until January 1.

In addition to this forecast for northern states, dense fog is also predicted for Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern regions until December 31. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim may experience similar conditions until January 1. In Himachal Pradesh, the foggy weather is expected to persist until January 2.

Delhi's Air Quality Amidst Cold Wave

Despite the ongoing cold wave in Delhi on Monday morning, there was a slight improvement in air quality noted by the Meteorological Department. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 15°C-five degrees below normal-while Palam registered 13°C-seven degrees below the seasonal average.

The cold wave gripping northern India is causing significant discomfort due to low temperatures and dense fog. These conditions are expected to continue affecting daily life across various states until early January. Residents should prepare for limited visibility and chilly weather during this period.
