Delhi Slum Fire Tragedy: CM Rekha Gupta Offers Condolences, Provides Relief Measures

Delhi Following the tragic fire that destroyed a Rohini slum in northwest Delhi, killing two children and injuring five more, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta sent her sympathies. The fire caused extensive destruction early in the morning, destroying more than 800 shanties in the crowded jhuggi cluster. Firefighters fought the fire for more than three hours, and thick smoke rose from the scene.

Gupta expressed her "deep sadness" at the horrific event in a post on X and gave her word that the government is acting quickly to help those impacted. The Chief Minister attested that the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and the local MLA had arrived on the spot in a timely manner to coordinate emergency measures. These included giving the displaced residents food, medical support, and mobile restrooms.

Gupta further underlined that the government is keeping a careful eye on the issue to make sure that everyone affected receives prompt assistance and rehabilitation. "We stand firmly with those affected during this difficult time," she wrote in a letter. Families that have been displaced are being relocated to schools in the area, where makeshift shelters and necessary amenities are being established for their welfare.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) attacked Gupta's actions for being hesitant to address the problem, even though she responded promptly. Atishi, the Delhi Assembly's Leader of the Opposition, said that Gupta had not even tweeted about the incident and was allegedly listening to "Mann Ki Baat" while the fire was burning. She insisted that the Chief Minister respond more quickly.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the Delhi BJP spokesperson, defended the party by saying that the Chief Minister's directives were swiftly followed in initiating relief operations. He promised that the impacted families are receiving the assistance they require from the government.

Authorities are trying to make sure that everyone who is impacted gets the help and rehabilitation they require while the investigations are ongoing.
