Delhi Rains: Heavy rains hit parts of Delhi today, triggering an 'orange' warning and disrupting traffic, but flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport remain unaffected.

Delhi Rains: IGI Airport Flight Operations Remain Unaffected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that light rain, accompanied by fog, reduced visibility in several parts of the national capital. Despite this, Delhi Airport authorities assured that flight operations have not been impacted. However, passengers were advised to check with their airlines for updated flight details. "Low Visibility Procedures are still in progress at Delhi Airport. There has been no impact on flight operations," the airport stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Weather Forecast: More Rain Expected

The IMD has forecasted thunderstorms and rain for Delhi on both Friday and Saturday, with temperatures expected to range from 12°C to 20°C. Residents can expect more showers over the coming days, which will continue to impact visibility.

Local resident Deepak Pandey shared, "The weather has become so pleasant, with cooler temperatures and reduced pollution levels."

Traffic and Air Quality Impact

Alongside the weather, traffic jams were reported across Delhi and Noida as heavy rains caused disruptions on the roads. Despite the inclement weather, the air quality in the city saw slight improvements after the rain, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping from 'very poor' to 'poor'. However, it remains above the 300-mark, indicating that air pollution continues to be a concern in the city, as per media reports.

As of 7 a.m., the AQI in areas such as Anand Vihar (398) and IGI Airport (340) remained high, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The government has revoked the 'Severe+' measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) following improved air quality, though measures under Stages I, II, and III remain in place, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Looking Ahead

With more showers expected and the air quality improving slightly, Delhiites can expect cooler temperatures in the coming days. However, the ongoing low visibility, combined with the unpredictable weather, is likely to continue affecting travel and daily routines across the national capital.
