Delhi Police Arrest SUV Driver In Connection With Coaching Centre Flooding Tragedy
The Delhi Police arrested the driver of an SUV on Monday, who is alleged to have contributed to the flooding at Rau's IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, where three UPSC aspirants died on Saturday. The driver, along with four others, was taken into custody in connection with the tragic incident.
DCP (Central) M. Harshvardhan reported that the driver, who was operating a Force Gurkha, is among five individuals arrested, including the owners of the basement space where the coaching centre is located. The driver is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder (BNS section 105), for allegedly damaging the coaching centre's gate, allowing rainwater to flood the basement.

According to the DCP, the arrest was prompted by a widely circulated video showing the driver speeding past the coaching centre and subsequently damaging its gate. The police identified the driver and vehicle through CCTV footage from the area. The high-speed impact reportedly caused the gate to break, increasing the flow of water into the basement.
The DCP added, "Negligence has been established on the part of the arrested driver. He was driving at high speed, causing the gate to break. The street vendor's attempt to stop him was unsuccessful."
The incident resulted in the deaths of Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala. The coaching centre's owner and coordinator have also been arrested and face charges including culpable homicide.
