Delhi Health Minister Announces Immediate Shutdown of 250 Mohalla Clinics

During a press briefing, the Delhi Health Minister announced several major healthcare initiatives, including the launch of 10 mobile dental clinics to serve rural areas. These "Dental Vans" will be deployed across different regions to provide essential dental care services to those who have limited access to healthcare facilities. The minister emphasized that these mobile units will help improve oral healthcare, particularly in underserved communities.

In addition to the introduction of dental vans, the minister addressed concerns about the management of government-run hospitals in Delhi. He stated that each medical superintendent (MS) will now be responsible for only one hospital, rather than managing multiple facilities. This change is intended to streamline hospital administration and ensure that superintendents can focus entirely on improving the functioning of a single healthcare institution. Furthermore, a mandatory transfer policy has been introduced, where every medical superintendent will be transferred after three years of service in a particular hospital. This decision aims to bring efficiency and accountability to hospital management.

Another key issue raised during the briefing was the lack of a dedicated maternity center in Delhi for the past 11 years. The minister acknowledged that maternal healthcare remains a priority, as nearly 20% of childbirths in the city still take place outside hospitals. Citing data maintained by the Delhi municipal corporation, he stressed the importance of ensuring that all deliveries occur in medical institutions, where proper care and emergency assistance can be provided. The government's goal is to reduce the number of childbirths occurring outside hospitals to zero, ensuring safer maternal and infant health outcomes.

These announcements come as part of the government's broader efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and expand medical services for residents across the city.
