Delhi Government Scraps ₹60 Lakh Renovation Tender For CM Rekha Gupta’s Residence
The Delhi government has officially withdrawn the ₹60 lakh tender issued for the renovation of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's official residence, citing "administrative reasons." The Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed that all planned upgrades, including major electrical work, 14 new air conditioners, ₹9 lakh worth of televisions, and luxury lighting valued at ₹6 lakh, have been shelved.
This decision comes shortly after Rekha Gupta-appointed Chief Minister following the BJP's recent electoral win-took office. A first-time MLA, Gupta had been allotted two bungalows on Raj Niwas Marg: one for her official residence and the other as a camp office. However, she declined to occupy the bungalow used by former CM Arvind Kejriwal, which had drawn criticism over alleged excessive spending on renovations.

The tender, which was due to open for bidding this week, was abruptly cancelled before the process could begin. With this move, all renovation and modernization efforts for the Chief Minister's residence have been put on indefinite hold.
Gupta's decision appears to signal a clear departure from her predecessor's approach, focusing instead on restraint and transparency in governance. The cancellation is being interpreted as a message that the new administration is prioritizing fiscal responsibility and avoiding unnecessary expenditure of public funds.
No new tenders or refurbishment proposals are expected in the near future. The development is being widely viewed as a step toward establishing a more accountable and cost-conscious government-an approach that may resonate positively with voters and watchdog groups alike.
