Delhi Government Opens Historic Assembly To Public On Jan 25–26 For Republic Day

As Republic Day approaches, preparations are in full swing across the country, with Delhi seeing heightened security, rehearsals for the ceremonial parade, and a festive atmosphere building across the capital.

Amid these arrangements, the Delhi government has announced that the historic Delhi Assembly will be opened to the public on the evenings of January 25 and 26, giving citizens a chance to experience one of the city's most significant landmarks up close.

A Rare Chance to Step Inside the 115-Year-Old Assembly

The Delhi Assembly complex will remain open from 5 pm to 8 pm on both days. During these hours, visitors will be able to walk through the 115-year-old building and explore key heritage areas located within the premises. The initiative is expected to attract families and history enthusiasts, especially those looking to spend the Republic Day weekend doing something meaningful with children.

Patriotic Music and Cultural Performances in the Evening

The visit will be accompanied by a cultural programme planned as part of the Republic Day celebrations. A renowned band will perform patriotic songs on both evenings, while the Sahitya Kala Akademi will present cultural performances. As dusk sets in, the Assembly building will be lit up in the colours of the national flag, adding to the festive mood inside the complex.

Entry Rules and Security Arrangements

There will be no need for prior registration to enter the Assembly. Visitors can arrive from 5 pm onwards and will be allowed entry after security checks by showing a valid identity card. Given the Republic Day celebrations, security arrangements across Delhi have been tightened, and visitors have been advised to cooperate with officials on duty.

Speaker Invites Citizens to Celebrate in the Spirit of Patriotism

According to an official statement, the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly has invited Delhiites to visit the Assembly and celebrate Republic Day in the "true spirit of patriotism". The open-house initiative is being seen as an effort by the Delhi government to bring citizens closer to the country's democratic institutions while marking one of the most important national occasions.
